Hi! I’m Ally and as mentioned I am normal chick, with a thirst for adventure, photography and after working in Tourism for many years, I'm pretty realistic when it comes to things that are 'must do's and things that are just massive anti-climatic waste's of your time!
So, who am I? I won’t go too much into it, but I was born in Scotland and grew up in a family who loved to travel. Both my parents before having me, traveled through Europe on a motorbike – (pretty Bad Ass, right?) had been to Australia, New Zealand the States and have always had that Wanderlust for adventure! Even up until now where they have recently backpacked through Asia, and this year heading to South America – they are my true inspiration!
As soon as a graduated at the age of 21 back in 2011, I packed my bags and moved to Australia to experience the classic gap year…with the full intention of returning home after that and settling down. However, like many other amazing people I’ve met on my journey, this never happens. It’s now 2019 and since then I haven’t returned home to live any longer than a few weeks!
At this point I should probably mention that I have a high functioning anxiety disorder which in a nutshell mean that I am likely appear to be successful, together, and calm with the typical Type A personality who excels at work and in life. Sounds wonderful right? —though the way I actually feel on the inside is completely different. What others might not know about me and what I generally would never share but here I feel the need, is that beneath the surface of a seemingly perfect exterior, I am fighting a constant churn of anxiety. I have had this since I can remember but only in the past 2 years or so have I actually researched enough to find out mentally what is going on.
Currently, I am in New Zealand and have been for the past 6 years and I can tell you now if it’s on your Bucket list I can completely understand and if it’s not yet, then add it, as NZ is simply incredible. There is no other word to describe it. The National parks, walks, trails, waterfalls, snow-capped mountains and crystal clear lakes make this destination one of the most spectacular in the world. Not to mention this is where I met my travel partner, best friend and amazing other half Leo.
He has a similar story to mine, he grew up in Brazil and moved to Canada at the age of 17 as an exchange student to study and learn English. Since then he graduated in Tourism and began travelling the world, living all over Brazil, Europe, Mexico and finally to New Zealand where our paths collided. He has an unquenchable thirst for adventure, travelling and immersing himself in new cultures, so together we make the perfect team…he also speaks 4 languages so my admiration for him grows daily. Check him out on Instagram here!
Fast forward to present day, we have now arrived back in NZ (if you need any tips please ask us as we have done ticked off pretty much every activity, adventure, hidden gem and location on the map) after packing up OUR ENTIRE LIFE and traveling around the world for the past year. That’s where this blog comes in handy as this was our visual diary to document our adventures.
